2016 – GameJam, Puzzle, Portal Rendering
Games Engineering (Java, OpenGL, Matella)
Shards was my second LudumDare entry. With the theme being “One Room,” I decided to create a portal-based puzzle game. This allowed me to experiment with non-euclidean geometry based on my engine’s new portal feature, something I had been wanting to do for some time. The game uses six distinct parts that players connect via portals, forming a single room with a different structure in each level. The goal is to navigate this dynamic space, strategically opening and closing portals to link the necessary shards.
The resulting game turned out to be more of a maze game than a puzzle game due to the challenge of finding the right portals and keeping the (non-euclidean) geometry in your mind.
